Ballet is a centuries-old style of dance that conveys emotions and stories, or “legends,” through artistic movement and expression, accompanied by entrancing instrumentals, and mesmerizing ballerina costumes. Some of the most famous ballets include Tchaikovsky's “Swan Lake” and “Sleeping Beauty,” and Prokofiev's “Romeo and Juliet,” all of which tell a legend through a particular aesthetic. My collection for Legends: The NYU Gallatin Fashion Show ('24) draws inspiration from the whimsical, sparkly, and decadent ballerina costumes featured in these shows. I want to create magic and fantasy that takes the audience through an experience of a fairytale world that only exists in their dreams.
